3 summer dangers on the road

Summer can be one of the most enjoyable times to be on the road. It’s why so many people set aside their everyday drive and pull out the classic vehicles or motorcycles they have stored all year and go driving for pleasure rather than necessity.

Unfortunately, summer is also one of the most dangerous times to be on the road. Here are some of the things that can make it that way.

1. Drunk drivers

Summer means increased opportunities to drink for a lot of people. Parties, BBQs, outdoor music festivals and the like can all involve considerable quantities of alcohol. That’s all well and good, but many people then get in their cars and drive. Even if they stay under the limit, alcohol consumption makes them inherently less safe drivers.

2. The weather

The sun’s rays can feel great and have been shown to have positive mental benefits. However, you can have too much of a good thing. Aside from the obvious risks of skin cancer, too much good weather can affect people’s driving. Drivers can get dehydrated more quickly, feel drowsier in the heat and humidity, and have trouble seeing the road and others due to the sun’s glare.

3. Thunderstorms

It can come as a relief when the first drops of rain burst forth from the dark thunderclouds that have built overhead. Yet, when those raindrops hit the asphalt, they will release the oils that the sun has baked onto the surface since the last time it rained and reduce traction for your wheels. If the storm is heavy, it can also lead to standing water on the roads, which again reduces traction, and if someone goes too fast, can create spray that reduces visibility.

Hopefully, you enjoy a safe summer out on the roads. If you don’t due to someone else’s imprudence, then learning how to claim compensation could be crucial
